Welcome
We know that this is a contentious and serious issue and you can help by letting us
know how you feel and what information you may need in order to make an informed
decision.

Chugiak - Eagle River was its own independent community back in the early 1970's as
a result of a direct effort from our legislature, but an Alaskan court over turned the status
and then merged Chugiak - Eagle River into the new Municipality of Anchorage during
unification of the City and Borough of Anchorage.

The Alaska Constitution and present Alaska Statute Law makes it difficult for us to
create two political subdivisions where one now exists; but, not impossible for us to
vote ourselves out of a unified municipality.

This web site is a product of community members
who want to examine the feasibility of forming a
separate and autonomous government for the
community of Chugiak-Eagle River. We believe self
determination of our public services is important
and our community has grown sufficiently to make
this a reality.

Our committee is working hard to assemble the
necessary data to answer the big question... how
much will this cost? In addition, determining what
the public process is, (i.e. the nuts and bolts of how
to go about this) is at best, tricky but doable.
